
Dr. Tara Simmons is an educator, researcher, public speaker, and leader in the field of inclusive fitness and adaptive movement. She is the founder of All Abilities Fitness Center and the creator of the Inclusive Fitness Framework™, a structured, evidence-informed approach designed to transform how movement is taught, accessed, and experienced by individuals of all abilities.
Dr. Simmons earned her PhD with a research focus on the barriers and facilitators to inclusive fitness participation for individuals with disabilities. Her work examines critical factors such as accessibility, staff preparedness, program design, environmental demands, and social-emotional influences-providing a comprehensive understanding of why participation gaps exist and how they can be meaningfully addressed.
As both a scholar and practitioner, Dr. Simmons has spent years translating research into real-world application. She has designed and implemented inclusive fitness programming across schools, universities, and community-based settings, working with individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, and sensory needs. Her approach moves beyond accommodations and toward intentional design, equipping professionals with the tools to create environments that support regulation, engagement, and meaningful participation.
Dr. Simmons is also an accomplished public speaker and consultant, delivering trainings and strategic support to educators, therapists, fitness professionals, schools, and organizations. Her work, including a TEDx talk, challenges traditional perspectives on ability, participation, and access to movement.
